Coweta County has a split clerk structure. Niki Sewell is the Clerk of Superior Court, and that office handles Superior Court and Juvenile Court records listed through GSCCCA. Sheila W. Echols is the State Court Clerk, and that office handles State Court civil, misdemeanor criminal, and traffic dockets. Probate Court is separate, with Judge Carrie B. Markham at the Historic Courthouse, while sheriff custody and recent-arrest records are held through the Sheriff's Office and jail channels.

The Superior Court Clerk page identifies the clerk office, case-management, court services, filing fees, court forms, eCertification, and jury notices.

Use that office for Superior Court certified copies, divorce decrees, felony case files, and broad civil records, but use the State Court Clerk for State Court misdemeanor, civil, and traffic matters.

Coweta County Court System

Georgia does not use a county-level District Court as Coweta County's main trial court. Superior Court is the general-jurisdiction trial court. Coweta County is part of the Coweta Judicial Circuit with Coweta, Meriwether, and Troup Counties. State Court handles the county's misdemeanor, traffic, and State Court civil work. Magistrate Court handles warrants, first appearances, small civil claims, dispossessory cases, and lower civil/criminal first-contact matters.

Probate Court has its own jurisdiction, and Coweta's Probate Court is an Article 6 probate court with expanded authority. Juvenile Court files are restricted. Municipal courts handle city ordinance and local traffic matters. Appeals move through Georgia's appellate courts, including the Court of Appeals of Georgia and, for specified matters, the Supreme Court of Georgia.

Case flow: Magistrate, municipal, probate, state, or superior filing › docket entries and hearings › order, plea, judgment, or sentence › appellate review when allowed.

Coweta County Court Search Portals

Coweta's online records access is not one database. The Tyler public case-management portal is different from State Court traffic payment, Georgia Probate Records, P2C, VINELink, and NextRequest. The Coweta/Tyler search disclaimer says Coweta County Public Records provides information as a public service and recommends name spelling variations.

The public search routes are useful, but portal records can be incomplete, restricted, or less useful than a certified clerk copy.

Coweta County Traffic Records

Traffic records are a State Court topic for many Coweta County cases. The State Court Clerk page identifies the clerk's docket role, open-records route, and Traffic Violations Bureau connection. The State Court Clerk page also lists Sheila W. Echols and states that fine payments are processed Monday through Friday.

Traffic citations may be payable or must-appear depending on the State Court judges' Traffic Violations Bureau order. Coweta tells drivers to wait at least two weeks after receiving a citation before trying online payment, and to call the State Court Clerk if the citation is still missing two weeks before the court date.

The Traffic Violations Bureau page gives the practical channels for payment, first-time speeding, nolo plea, continuance, and jury-trial requests.

Pay Your Tix and the State Court search are access tools, while a certified copy or exemplified copy still comes from the clerk under the listed copy-fee rules.

Coweta County Court Copy Fees

Copy rules vary by clerk. State Court unassisted copies are listed at $0.50 per page, assisted copies at $1 per page, and certified or exemplified stamp and seal at $2.50 plus $0.50 for each additional page. Superior Court lists regular copies at $0.50 unassisted or $1 assisted, certified copies at $2.50 plus $0.50 additional page, and exemplified copies at $5.

The State Court copy-fee and case-management page explains that civil, criminal, and traffic docket inquiries use the State Court website and that copy purchases may be made through approved payment channels.

Coweta County Public Records Access

Georgia's Open Records Act applies broadly to public agency records, while court-specific rules and confidentiality laws still control many court files. O.C.G.A. 50-18-70 states Georgia's public-records presumption. O.C.G.A. 50-18-71 covers response timing, costs, copying, and estimates. O.C.G.A. 50-18-72 lists exemptions and records that may be withheld. Court records may also be limited by Uniform Superior Court Rule 21 or by sealing orders.

Key access rule: Coweta County says records requests may incur charges after the first 15 minutes, and estimates are provided for requests likely to exceed $25.

The county uses NextRequest for public-records requests. Use it for county records that are not available through a court search portal, a clerk copy request, or a sheriff P2C route. Open-records access does not override sealed records, juvenile confidentiality, adoption confidentiality, mental-health protections, or protected identifiers.

Coweta County Probate Records

Probate Court is in the Historic Courthouse at 200 Court Square. It handles estates, wills, guardianships, conservatorships, certain trust matters, mental-health evaluations and treatment, birth-certificate amendments, marriage licenses, certified marriage copies, and weapons carry matters. Coweta is an Article 6 Probate Court, which means the probate judge must meet attorney qualifications and the court has expanded jurisdiction in proper matters.

The Coweta Probate Court page lists Judge Carrie B. Markham, jurisdiction, payment methods, address, hours, and phone information.

Marriage records have a distinct search path. Georgia Probate Records provides a recorded marriage search with Coweta in the county dropdown.

Executor
A person named to handle an estate under a will.
Intestate
A death without a valid will, which uses intestate estate procedures.
Conservator
A fiduciary appointed to manage property or funds for another person.

Coweta County Criminal Records

Criminal court records and law-enforcement custody records are not the same file. Superior Court handles felony criminal cases. State Court handles misdemeanor criminal cases and traffic/non-traffic misdemeanors. The Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney, John Herbert "Herb" Cranford Jr., prosecutes felony and other state criminal matters in the circuit. Solicitor-General Amy Godfrey prosecutes State Court misdemeanors, including traffic and non-traffic misdemeanors.

Jail and recent-arrest records use the Sheriff's Office and P2C channels. The Coweta County Sheriff Office app is documented in the research as a communication, tips, crime reporting, interactive feature, and public-safety news channel. For current custody, the P2C inmate route and Georgia VINELink are more relevant than a court docket. For case outcomes, use the court file and clerk copy routes.

TermMeaning in Coweta Records
ChargeThe alleged offense filed after arrest, citation, or warrant.
DispositionThe final result of a charge or case, such as dismissal, plea, verdict, or sentence.
BondSecurity for release from jail and future court appearance.
DocketThe chronological list of filings, hearings, and court actions.

Coweta County Warrant Records

Coweta County does not have a verified public active-warrant search page in the research. P2C routes for Wanted Persons and Most Wanted Persons exist in the software, and the app bundle exposes warrant-style labels, but the Coweta API returned that those modules are not enabled. That means an active Coweta County warrant search should use the sheriff, the issuing court, and records-request channels rather than rely on a public web list.

Bench warrants may originate in State Court, Superior Court, Magistrate Court, Probate Court, Juvenile Court, or a municipal court, depending on the missed appearance or underlying case. Magistrate Court often handles arrest warrants and first appearances. Sealed warrants, juvenile warrants, and active-investigation records may not be public.

Note: Do not assume a missing web listing means there is no warrant; confirm with the issuing court or sheriff.

Restricted Coweta County Records

Some Coweta County court records are public only in part or not public through ordinary searches. Juvenile Court records are confidential, and the Juvenile Court overview says the minor, parents or legal guardians, and attorneys of record may obtain selected orders or documents at the juvenile records counter with photo ID. Records are not mailed. Adoption records have separate confidentiality under O.C.G.A. 19-8-23.

Criminal-history restriction follows O.C.G.A. 35-3-37 and Georgia Bureau of Investigation guidance. For arrests after July 1, 2013, GBI directs the person to contact the prosecutor rather than file a GBI application. For older arrests, the person applies through the arresting agency. Restriction limits public access but does not necessarily destroy every government record.
